At eggscellent we support scholarships for young Cambodians. Here we are sharing one of the many stories.

Hi, my name is Sonita* and I am 14 years old. I live in Siem Reap together with my aunt (who works for eggscellent), uncle and nephew. In my free time I like to be creative. For example, I crochet small animals, which you can use as beautiful keychains. I recently learned how to do crochet and I am so excited about it that I even take it to school and do it during break times.

I also like to do sports at school and go out on my bicycle. However, walking, running and cycling is difficult, exhausting and sometimes painful for me. My left foot has been amputated when I was little, because of a deformation. I also cannot bend my knee, which makes sitting and moving around even more difficult.

Monday to Saturday I get sponsored to go to a private school, where I like to do maths and science most of all subjects. In the future I want to become a doctor, in order to help people, like me, who do not have enough money, to go to a doctor and receive good treatment.

Thank you for your interest in my story!

You can support me and my current studies through buying one of these key chains at Genevieve’s fair trade village.
